1. Choose the right fabric:

For this project we chose a ribbed knit for the outside portion of the mask because it is a stretchy fabric. For the inside we used a jersey knit fabric because it has good stretch and it’s super soft on the face.
2. Cut the fabric to pattern:
Once you’ve chosen your fabric, you will need to cut out the pattern. A quick Google search for “Balaclava Pattern” will give you various styles of Balaclava masks to choose from.
There are many different types of masks to choose from. Some of them have separate eye holes, some with an opening for the mouth and on and on. Take your pick.

*We chose a ribbed knit fabric for it’s stretch because it will fit snug for all head types.
3. Sew the pieces together:
After you’ve cut the fabric, sew the pieces together to form the balaclava mask. While you can sew them by hand using a sewing machine is much faster method.

If you notice in our video we did not make a standard balaclava but we cut the pattern in a way that we can add color blocking with a frayed edge overlay effect. Making it totally unique.
